(Or, no I am not anti-trade at all)
Thanks for keeping the project close to your thoughts. I appreciate all the creative inputs. Let me know if you need anything.
My boss just ended his email that way this morning, prompting me to make this quick post on my blog, although I am sooooo busy. (This will take 15 minutes, I promise)
Whew! What a refreshing change to have a great boss who never fails to thank you for your work, all the time, even when he’s paying you well enough anyway to do your work. (Ditto for his equally nice wife)
What better motivation for writers, who are usually underpaid and made to feel unvalued for their work. Sinong Pinoy ang hindi gaganahang magtrabaho ng maayos at mag-“go the extra mile” kung ganyan ba naman ang trato sa iyo?
I have had some (four) really horrible (male) bosses in the past, who acted as if they owned me (and the others who worked for them), and not just my time when I am at work – but that’s the subject of an entirely separate post, and I don’t like ranting.
In contrast, the atmosphere in the Makati office is light and bubbly, funny and creative, and there are no "hierarchies" and yet things are completed on time and to specs (or beyond).
Of course I conveniently forgot to tell you that this boss is a batch mate, who’s now a CEO of a growing American dot.com with infinite potentials. (Did you hear me right? Yes, an American company with American board members and a young Pinoy CEO). And no, he did not grow up with a silver spoon; nor did he have an easy childhood or life. I know (well a bit).
So I guess it’s largely that attitude of respect that has propelled him to where he is now. Is he even conscious about his contribution to the Philippine economy, well, in macro terms?
Now if there were a lot more Pinoy entrepreneurs like that, willing to stay on in the country despite the difficulties and creating business that provide opportunities for Pinoy creative professionals like me, aba, there’s a good chance we can begin to lick poverty and our other economic problems. Sana tuloy-tuloy na ito...
Yup, Happy Feet, that’s how I feel right now.
